My Approach

I believe that sustainable health resides at the core of one’s body and being. The very individual path that each person takes to strengthen that core is where I can help.

I consider it my purpose and privilege, as a Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner, to partner with women to help them figure out how to take charge of their health in a way that honors their unique needs and allows their natural vitality to flourish.  When we nourish our innate ability to heal and be well, we can have the energy and sense of well-being that we crave, enabling us to live more fully into our aspirations and dreams!

So, what does this mean for you?

Assessment and Discovery

If you feel ready for assistance in furthering your health journey, we’ll start with a functional nutrition assessment of your health. Together we will look carefully at your history, your symptoms, and your goals.

I search for the “why” behind what’s showing up in order to find customized solutions to your particular physiological imbalances. It’s a discovery process, requiring a kind of “detective” work that takes time. You may be feeling impatient for a solution, but really, there is rarely a quick fix for health issues that develop slowly over years.

Moreover, most health conditions today are triggered by not just one but a variety of factors.  Finding resolution for symptoms often ends up involving a non-linear process of trial and error. I cannot predict what we will uncover and how long that process will take.

I help with addressing the source of health and illness — your biological ecology, or the internal terrain of your body.  Digestive wellness is an essential foundation for overall health.  Therefore, my initial focus in working with a client is usually to consider carefully how well her digestive system is functioning, and whether allergies or sensitivities to certain foods or environmental elements might be contributing to her symptoms.

We identify and integrate the basics of your individualized self-care needs. These are the foundational, non-negotiable practices that must be in place in order for your healing to happen.

While gut health is key, it’s also just one of the many factors that can influence a woman’s ability to be well. After all, the benefits of what might be a perfect diet for one person may be lost in the presence of serious imbalances in other arenas of her life.

When it comes to health, there is no formula that works for everyone! Each client’s health journey is as unique as the combination of her life experiences, genes, exposures, and habits. So, each woman’s healing path requires steps that are particular to her individual needs.

Heart-centered consulting and coaching

As a heart-centered practitioner and coach, I ask a lot of questions and listen carefully to your answers. My primary intention is to tap your expert knowledge of yourself in helping you to draw the connection between your current symptoms, your health history, and your choices.

My job is to help you to identify your options and figure out what works best for your well-being, including specific changes you would like to make — realistically, step by step — to achieve your health goals.

In an important sense, while you sit in the proverbial driver’s seat of your life and health, I, your Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner or FNLP Coach, serve as a type of navigator to help you successfully reach your destination. We work together as a team.

Integrative and functional approach

I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life connect and affect your overall health. Not just your diet, though of course that matters too. This is about whether you are being nourished, or undermined, by the major strands of your life’s web.

For example, does stress at your job or in your relationships cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? Is your schedule too busy for contact with nature, which can influence your health in important ways?

You get the idea. One aspect of your life may be interfering with another, which impacts your ability to be well.

Together we’ll strive to reach your health goals in areas such as maximizing your physical energy, reducing brain fogginess or forgetfulness, clearing your skin rashes, achieving optimal weight, reducing food cravings, increasing sleep, healing digestive woes.

My approach does not dwell on calories or grams of carbs, fats, and proteins. Nor do I issue lists of restrictions or of “good” and “bad” foods or other lifestyle choices. After all, what works well for one person may cause damage for another. What works for you will be particular to you.

What I do dwell on, through our collaborative efforts, is helping you develop a deeper understanding of what’s going on inside your body and the specific food and lifestyle factors that work best for you given your unique body and circumstances. I am committed to supporting you in implementing lasting changes that will improve your energy, balance, and overall health.
